4 tips for winning rare cars every time

As one of the best racing games ever made, it’s no secret Forza Horizon 5 has a huge collection of amazing cars to unlock, sell and buy. But, while racking up credits to pick up valuable rides at the Auto Show might seem like the most sensible route to adding valuable goods to your garage, true Forza aficionados know that the in-game auction house can be a great way to maximize the funds you have. While winning auctions is far from an exact science, here are four tips we’ve learned to make sure you’re always in the hunt for a big purchase.

4. Know which cars are valuable

Especially if you’re looking to get into the sniper car meta and sell them for more than you paid, it helps to know which cars are the most valuable. As new cars are added to the game, this level of value is constantly changing. There are, however, certain pillars that almost always hold true no matter when you start your grind. For example, older model cars will almost always sell for a handsome amount of change.

If you have questions about the value of a particular car, the in-game auto show prices can serve as a solid barometer of demand. You can also research other auctions of the car you’re looking to sell to see what the maximum payout range looks like. This plays well into our next tip.

3. Use advanced filters to refine your bids

At any time there is many auctions that take place in Forza Horizon 5of the auction house. The best way to find valuable car sales is to use the game’s advanced filter settings. You will see a button prompt when starting your bidding query for “advanced” which is mapped to the X button on an Xbox controller. Tap on it and you’ll see a slew of filters that look like this.

With these filters, you can ensure that you only see cars listed for prices you’re willing to spend. In terms of snipers, this cuts down on the amount of junk you’ll have to wade through, so you always click on the cars that match your needs. As described above, this can also be used as a tool to see what price specific car models are selling for at any given time. Some filters we like to use are the Max/mins for auctions and buybacks as well as the year, and the “all unique” source tag. These almost guarantee you’ll see opportunities to buy high-value cars for what you want to pay for them.

2. Change your settings on PC

Although we personally think this tip is getting a bit too much In the weeds for some people, there are plenty of auction house snipers who swear to downgrade their game graphics settings to ensure that auctions always load as fast as possible.

Some settings to consider are setting the resolution to 1024×768 and setting the frame rate to 20fps. The game will look and play terribly with these options set this way, but it could theoretically help auction menus load fast enough that you have an advantage against some players loading high-res assets. Unfortunately, you don’t have control over these settings on Xbox, but you can change the graphics mode to “performance” if you’re looking for a similar theoretical benefit.

1. Learn what “ending soon” really means

While the conventional wisdom established by auction platforms like eBay suggests that it is possible to grab valuables at the very last second of open auctions, the process works a little differently in Forza Horizon 5. When you see an ad categorized as “ending soon” it means there is technically one minute left before the auction is removed from the listing.

When an auction ends soon, you have 60 seconds to act.Microsoft

However, bids can only be placed at two specific times: one around the last 40 seconds of an auction, then a final bidding period closer to 20 seconds. So once you see that “ending soon” tag, you should start counting from 60 seconds in your head and place bids at 43 and 23 seconds respectively. As long as you have a shortlist of possible targets and follow these principles, you should have better luck at the auction house. Forza Horizon 5.
